The Smell of Christmas

Anyone heard of that potpourri scent? It's nice if used the appropriate way. However, this morning after Carson got up, came into our room, was drinking some milk in bed, he left our room. (problem #1) usually Andrew or i are in charge and the other sleeps a while longer. With me doing the race for the cure yesterday and my back aching and Andrew not getting home from work until about 3am this morning, i honestly don't think either of us remember Carson leaving our room.

maybe 15 minutes later, he comes back into our room, to my side of the bed and all i can smell is red hots (like the candy...) i immediately perk up because i know something is wrong when he is breathing fire (or so it smells) from his mouth. I pick him up, Andrew gets up and is trying to figure out what he has gotten into and Carson just keeps saying he "ate mommy's candy out of the drawer". By this time, Carson is screaming saying his mouth is hot and he is drooling uncontrollably. Gross. So Andrew's getting him more milk to cool his mouth and I'm just sitting here catching all his drool with my hands. Long story short, I somehow ended up rubbing the 'drool' on my chest and arm and having the same reaction of Carson's whole face and neck swelling and welting up. Great. Andrew googles something helpful and finds out giving him milk was probably the best thing to do. Since Carson was no longer screaming and I was burning on my chest and arm where i had touched the stuff to me, I understood what he was going through. (although i didn't attempt to drink it...) It hurt. We ended up giving him some Benedryll and putting him in the bathtub to make sure it all got washed off and to cool the burning sensation i was feeling. Then, we made a trip to Shipley Donuts just to make sure everyone was okay. :)
This was not long after it happened. His face was really red and swollen, but this picture really doesn't show it well.

He doesn't act too hurt, does he? Sweet little guy.

My red, swollen and welting chest and arm. This is really what his whole face and neck looked like. This was shortly before the welting (on Carson)began and we put him in the bathtub...

The culprit of our bad morning. This is the stuff that you add to dry potpourri to rejuvenate its smell. Its pure liquid and the plastic was still around the top (but had been ripped a little from where Carson opened it.) There was only the slightest bit gone from the bottle or I think we would have definitely made another trip to Children's ER.
